I’m looking for a Christmas present for my dad, I want to get him a gift certificate, in order for him to buy the tools he needs for his woodworking shop. He is extremely gifted at making anything out of wood and usually will only buy the best. I have no idea which brandname is the best or which store or catalog would be the best. Please help if you can. Christmas is coming very soon. He has built a kitchen table out of wormy chestnut, a beutiful 4 poster bed, a bassinette for his grandson, a tool chest, and a huge quilt chest. He also built new cabinets for a friend of his. Thanks for all the help so far.
It depends on what type of woodworking he does. There are many, many brands of different tools out there. To each his own. You could try this link. They have an online store and alot of very fine products to choose from. Maybe a gift certificate from a place like this and he can pick out what he needs or wants. Good Luck. www.woodcraft.com

The Church I attend is small and the people are poor so we really can’t afford to buy one at this time. There are the Mega churches and there are Micro churches (we’re the latter) If I could find A set of simple plans I’m almost sure I could build us one.
Here’s a plan. You could probably even figure out how to build it without paying for the plan if you have some experience. http://www.u-bild.com/projects-indoor/376.htm Here’s a plan that’s free. It’s actually for a music stand but could be adapted for use as a lectern. http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/shows_wwk/episode/0,2046,DIY_14350_26935,00.html Also take a look in your local library for woodworking project books. They’ll have many (and/or can get them) and you’re sure to find a project suitable for your church.

ie. what they are ,what they are for and how they should be used. I’ve tried a search but came up with nothing.please give a link or site name thanks
Here are some sites to start with. It also would be a good idea to see what books you can find at your local library. http://www.cln.org/themes/ww_tools.html (especially the Tool Museum link) http://woodworking.about.com/ http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-some-basic-woodworking-tools.htm There’s lots more out there if you search for ‘how to use woodworking tools’.

I cannot afford to purchase woodworking plan…so if there is anyone who would want to share plans or tell me where I can find free woodworking plans…it would be very nice. Thank You
If you are building the project yourself my advice would be to look for companies who already sell the products you are trying to build and use the dimensions they give as a rough idea to get you started. For example, if you were building country furniture you may want to type in “Amish furniture” at a search engine and browse through the sites that come up to get some ideas.

Where can i find teak steamer chair plans for free?
This is my favorite website for free plans for backyard projects. You will find the plans you want at: http://www.backyardspaces.com/ Good luck with your project.

I need another easy plan for my class. I’ve already made a footstool and a baseball plaque w/shelf. Please list the website.

I want to make basic wood projects like a gate for my backyard. Can you recommend a table saw and other tools and/or power tools that would be essential to woodworking?

Good book for beginner woodworking?

I have never done any woodworking, but I am very interested in learing how to (of course with time) make furniture and other things out of wood. Could someone, please, recommend me a good book (with clear instructions and pictures)? I would really appreciate if you recommended a book that you actually read and used yourself, and you know that it's a good one. Thank you!

Woodworking/Lathes and chucks question?

Ok, I just bought this lathe in the link.
http://www.grizzly.com/products/VS-Mini-Wood-Lathe/G9247

How do you tell which kind of mandrel you need? As in which one will fit this lathe? Or are they a universal fit? I’m fairly new with lathes and I’d appreciate any information. Thanks!

EVERY LATHE COMES WITH A MANUAL. IT WILL TELL YOU WHAT YOUR HEADSTOCK REQUIRES. GENERALLY A #2 MORSE TAPER WILL DO THE TRICK, BUT FOR SMALLER LATHES DESIGNED JUST FOR PEN TURNING IT MAY TAKE A #1 MT, AT ANY RATE CHECK YOUR MANUAL.
